Ara: An angry mob on Thursday blocked Ara-Sasaram, Ara-Patna and Ara-Mohania main roads near Jagdeonagar Mor under the Nawada police station area to protest the death of a 16-year-old in an accident on Wednesday evening. People raised slogans against the Bhojpur district administration and set ablaze a tourism department bus.
Himanshu, a resident of Baisadih village under the Piro police station area, was crushed to death by a speeding bus near Jagdeonagar Mor while returning from his coaching class. Hundreds of local residents, allegedly provoked by some antisocial elements of the area, came together and burned tyres.
The police persuaded the protesters to lift the blockade, but they damaged at least 24 vehicles and paralysed the movement of traffic for almost three hours. Bhojpur SP Naveen Chandra Jha sent a police force to control the mob that damaged several shops in the area.
After the locals pelted stones at the cops and injured many of them, the police resorted to lathicharge. They also entered several houses where the agitating people took shelter and mercilessly beat them up.
